History of The Franchise Factor

The Franchise Factor monitors the growth of franchising in South Africa, and it is currently the only research of its kind. The research was first conducted by Bendeta Gordon in 1994 as Parker Gordon Associates. This was then repeated in 1996 and 1998. In 2000 it was conducted by Franchize Directions with Bendeta Gordon at the helm. In 2002 FRAIN took over the conduct of the research but in 2004 asked Franchize Directions to conduct it for them. In 2006 a new sponsor was found and for both 2006 and 2008, Standard Bank sponsored the research and thus it is called The Standard Bank Franchise Factor.

The research combines the Franchize Directions database of franchised systems with the wealth of franchising and industry knowledge and expertise to be able to reach all the Franchisors in South Africa.

The key objectives of the survey are to determine key quantitative information on the size of the franchise industry, and to determine its growth. Along with this other key information is determined.
